The Model Y cargo bay is a wide, flat, hard-surfaced area with low sides. It is excellent for carrying things and terrible at keeping them where you put them. Everyone discovers this the first time they do a supermarket run and arrive home to find the shopping distributed across the whole floor.
There are three distinct surfaces here and products tend to address only the first. The main cargo floor is what everything slides across. The molded grooves along each side are dead space nothing uses. The deep well under the floor panel is the largest unstructured volume in the car. Decide which you are solving before you buy.

1. Best overall
Motrobe trunk organizer (side-bin design)
A side-bin layout that fills the molded grooves either side of the Juniper cargo floor — space that is otherwise completely wasted — with soft sides, so no rattle and no hard edges against luggage. Five-seat only, and the bins collapse when empty.
Best for: Juniper owners who want the cargo side grooves used
Fits: Model Y Juniper (2025-2026)
What works
- Uses space that is otherwise completely wasted
- Soft sides mean no rattle and no hard edges against luggage
What does not
- Five-seat only — the seven-seat floor is a different shape
- Soft sides collapse if you unload the bin and leave it empty
Manufacturer specifications
- Built for the 2025-2026 Juniper five-seat cargo bay
- Side-bin layout that fills the molded grooves either side of the floor
- Soft-sided construction
Specifications as published by the manufacturer. We have not independently tested this product.

2. Best hidden storage
Under-floor storage bins (Model Y)
The sub-floor well is the most wasted volume in a Model Y, and bins make it usable while leaving the cargo area looking empty. You have to lift the floor panel to reach anything, so it suits what you need rarely.
Best for: Dividing the deep well beneath the cargo floor
Fits: Model Y (2020-2024) · Model Y Juniper (2025-2026)
What works
- The sub-floor well is the single most wasted volume in a Model Y, and bins make it usable
- Everything stays below the load floor, so the cargo area still looks empty
What does not
- You have to lift the floor panel to reach anything, so it is for things you need rarely
- Bins reduce the well's total volume slightly
Manufacturer specifications
- Bins shaped to the sub-floor well under the main cargo floor
- Separate Juniper and legacy listings
- Rigid dividers with lift handles
Specifications as published by the manufacturer. We have not independently tested this product.

3. Best combined with protection
Motrobe trunk mat and side-bin set
A trunk mat and side-bin set together, so the floor is protected and the grooves are used in one purchase. Five-seat layout only, and the bins mean the floor is no longer perfectly flat for long items.
Best for: Juniper owners who want the cargo floor and the side wells covered together
Fits: Model Y Juniper (2025-2026)
What works
- Turns the side grooves — normally wasted space — into usable bins
- Juniper-specific, so it does not sit proud at the wheel arches the way a legacy part does
What does not
- Five-seat layout only; the seven-seat cargo floor is a different shape
- The bins reduce how flat the floor is when you want to slide something long in
Manufacturer specifications
- Built for the 2025-2026 Juniper five-seat cargo bay
- Side-bin design that uses the molded grooves either side of the cargo floor
- Wipeable surface
Specifications as published by the manufacturer. We have not independently tested this product.

4. Buy this if you want protection, not storage
3D MAXpider cargo liner
Deliberately here as the alternative. If shopping sliding about is not your problem but spills and dirt are, a molded liner with a raised loading-edge lip is the right purchase and an organizer is not. Covers the main floor only.
Best for: Protecting the main cargo floor without losing usable depth
Fits: Model Y (2020-2024) · Model Y Juniper (2025-2026)
What works
- The raised loading-edge lip is what stops a spill running out onto the bumper
- Thin enough that you do not lose meaningful cargo height
What does not
- Covers the cargo floor only — the under-floor well needs its own piece
- Expensive for what is, functionally, one molded sheet
Manufacturer specifications
- Same three-layer construction as the footwell liners
- Shaped to the cargo well with a raised lip at the loading edge
- Separate part numbers per Model Y generation
Specifications as published by the manufacturer. We have not independently tested this product.

Five-seat or seven-seat
This is the fitment catch in this category. A seven-seat Model Y has a folded third row under the cargo floor, which changes the floor shape and the available depth. Most trunk organizers are listed for five-seat layouts, and a few say so explicitly. If you have a seven-seat car, check — a side-bin set built for a five-seat groove will not sit correctly.
The same applies on the Juniper, where the cargo floor was reshaped. Legacy trunk organizers sit proud at the wheel arches in a refreshed car.
Soft or rigid, in the trunk specifically
The trunk is the one place where soft-sided organizers are clearly better. Unlike the frunk, where a rigid box gives you useful compartments, the trunk is already large and what you need is division rather than structure. Soft bins are silent, they fold away when you need the whole floor, and they do not put a hard edge against your luggage.
The exception is the sub-floor well, where rigid bins are right because nothing is going to see them and you want them to hold their shape. See under-floor storage bins.
Questions people actually ask
What is the best way to stop shopping sliding in a Model Y?
Side bins in the molded grooves, or a soft collapsible organizer on the floor. A cargo liner does not help with sliding — it protects the floor instead.
Will a trunk organizer fit a seven-seat Model Y?
Not necessarily. The folded third row changes the cargo floor shape and depth. Check that the listing names a seven-seat car.
Do I need both a liner and an organizer?
They solve different problems — protection and containment. Many owners end up with both, and buying them together is cheaper than separately.
What is in the well under the cargo floor?
Nothing, officially. It is unstructured storage, which is why bins are the cheapest meaningful upgrade in the back of the car.
