Car console with drinks in the holders and the dash display behind

Tesla revised the Model 3's interior in 2021: a new console lid, a different wireless charging pad and revised trim. On this page that matters, because a tray or insert shaped to the pre-2021 console will not necessarily sit correctly in a 2021-2023 car. It is the clearest example on this site of a mid-generation change that affects one category and nothing else — floor mats are unaffected by it.

1. Best overall

TAPTES console organizer for Model 3

TAPTES

Year-scoped Model 3 listings, which is the one thing that matters on this generation because the 2021 update changed the console. Hard plastic transmits more rattle than the TPU sets, and there is less independent fit reporting than for BASENOR's parts.

Best for: Pre-Highland Model 3 owners

Fits: Model 3 (2017-2023)

2. Cheapest worthwhile fix

BASENOR under-screen console organizer tray

BASENOR

Non-slip, no adhesive, and it turns the shelf below the display from a slide into a tray. Friction fit, so it can shift under load.

Best for: The dead space under the touchscreen

Fits: Model Y (2020-2024) · Model Y Juniper (2025-2026) · Model 3 (2017-2023) · Model 3 Highland (2024-2026)

What works

  • Turns a shelf that items slide straight off into a usable tray
  • No adhesive means no residue when you sell the car

What does not

  • A friction fit can shift if you load it heavily and corner hard
  • Single-purpose — it does nothing for the armrest bin or cup holders

Manufacturer specifications

  • Non-slip base, no adhesive required
  • Shaped to the shelf beneath the center display

Buy exactly one piece with no bundle, and a simple shape means fewer edges to fit badly. Hard plastic, so it can click against the console on rough surfaces.

The console lid question

On an older Model 3 the console lid and armrest are a wear item — the sliding cover and the lid hinge are the parts owners most often ask about replacing. That is a different purchase from an organizer and worth separating in your head: an organizer divides the space, a replacement lid fixes a broken mechanism. Console lid and armrest covers the repair-versus-organize decision.

What is worth it on an older car

Honestly: the cup-holder insert and the under-screen tray, and not much else. A full console reorganization makes sense on a new car you will keep for years. On a six-year-old Model 3 the two cheap pieces fix the two daily irritations, and the money saved is better spent on floor liners, which do more for how the car feels.

Questions people actually ask

Did the 2021 Model 3 update change the console?

Yes — the lid, the sliding cover and the wireless charging pad. That affects console accessories, though not floor mats.

Will a Highland console part fit a 2022 Model 3?

No. The Highland console is a different design including the lid mechanism.

Which piece is worth buying on an older Model 3?

The cup-holder insert and the under-screen tray. A full set is harder to justify on a car you may not keep.

Can I replace a broken console lid?

Replacement lids and armrest assemblies are sold for this generation. That is a repair rather than an accessory — see [console lid and armrest](/console-organizers/model-3-console-lid-and-armrest).
