Fitment: Model 3 (2017-2023) · Full Model 3 2017-2023 fitment guide

White Tesla Model 3 parked on a tree-lined city street

The pre-Highland Model 3 ran from 2017 to 2023 — long enough for the aftermarket to mature and short enough that almost everything is still stocked. The footwell shape held across the whole run, which makes mats straightforward. One thing did change part way through, in 2021, and it affects exactly one category.

1. Buy first

JOWUA windshield sunshade

JOWUA

Cut to shape and the single best-value accessory for an older Model 3, where original glass coatings have had years to degrade. Parked use only, and it has to be stowed when you drive.

Best for: Anyone who parks outside — the highest-value shade you can buy

Fits: Model Y Juniper (2025-2026) · Model Y L (2026+, six-seat) · Model Y (2020-2024) · Model 3 Highland (2024-2026) · Model 3 (2017-2023)

Value9.5
Overall9.0/ 10 — our editorial score, not a lab test

What works

  • Solves the actual parked-heat problem — the windshield is the biggest single heat aperture in the car
  • Far cheaper than a roof shade and takes fifteen seconds to deploy
  • Cut to shape, so there is no gap at the corners where a universal shade leaves one

What does not

  • Only works while parked, unlike a roof shade which works while driving
  • Has to be stowed somewhere when you drive off

Manufacturer specifications

  • Black mesh fabric with a silver anti-light coating
  • Manufacturer claims up to 99% UV blocking
  • Cut to the specific windshield shape; listed for Juniper and Model Y L

Specifications as published by the manufacturer. We have not independently tested this product.

2. Buy second

WeatherTech FloorLiner

WeatherTech

On a car this age, WeatherTech's per-year fitment lookup is the most valuable thing in the mat category — it names 2017 through 2023 individually. Rigid underfoot and utilitarian in appearance.

Best for: Snow-belt owners who want the deepest tray walls available

Fits: Model Y (2020-2024) · Model Y Juniper (2025-2026) · Model 3 (2017-2023) · Model 3 Highland (2024-2026)

Material8.5
Cleanability9.0
Value7.0
Overall8.6/ 10 — our editorial score, not a lab test

What works

  • The tall perimeter wall is the most convincing containment in this category for slush and road salt
  • A long-standing fitment database means the year you own is usually explicitly listed, not implied

What does not

  • The rigid material is the least pleasant underfoot of the premium options and can creak on a cold morning
  • Finish is utilitarian — nobody buys these because they look good

Manufacturer specifications

  • High-density tri-extruded material with raised channel walls
  • Digitally measured per vehicle and per model year
  • US-manufactured; the company's own fitment lookup is by year, make and model

Specifications as published by the manufacturer. We have not independently tested this product.

3. Cheapest worthwhile fix

BASENOR cup-holder insert

BASENOR

The pre-Highland Model 3's cup wells are as wide as any Tesla's, and a soft insert stops narrow cups rattling for a few dollars. It reduces the maximum cup diameter the well accepts.

Best for: Stopping cups from rattling and tipping

Fits: Model Y (2020-2024) · Model Y Juniper (2025-2026) · Model 3 (2017-2023) · Model 3 Highland (2024-2026)

Value9.5
Overall8.8/ 10 — our editorial score, not a lab test

What works

  • Tesla's cup wells are wide, and a narrow cup rattles in them constantly — this is the direct fix
  • Cheapest single accessory on this site that you will notice every day

What does not

  • Reduces the maximum cup diameter the well can take
  • Needs lifting out to clean properly after a spill

Manufacturer specifications

  • Insert mat shaped to the console cup-holder wells
  • Soft compound chosen to damp movement
  • Supplied as part of the four-piece set and separately

Specifications as published by the manufacturer. We have not independently tested this product.

What is worth buying on a car this age

Be selective. The highest-value purchases on an older Model 3 are the ones that make a tired interior feel better: floor liners over worn carpet, a cup-holder insert, a windshield shade. A full console reorganization is harder to justify on a car you may not keep for years, and a screen protector is harder still — if the display has survived six years unscratched, the case for covering it against Tesla's own guidance is weak.

The one genuine repair in this range is the console lid, which is a wear item on these cars and is the thing owners most often search for. That is a repair rather than an accessory, and the console lid guide covers telling the two apart before you spend anything.

Questions people actually ask

Will Highland accessories fit my 2021 Model 3?

No. The Highland changed the footwell, console, roof and display. Buy from a listing that names 2017-2023.

Did the 2021 update change the floor?

No. It changed the console lid and the charging pad. Floor mats are unaffected; console parts are not.

What screen does a pre-Highland Model 3 have?

A 15-inch panel, the same size as the 2020-2024 Model Y, which is why several protectors are listed for both cars.

Are Model 3 and Model Y parts interchangeable?

Screen protectors on the 15-inch cars, yes. Footwells, frunk, cargo area and sills, no — despite the shared platform.
