Model Y (2020-2024)

Model Y Screen Protectors: the 15-inch Display (2020-2024)

The legacy Model Y uses a 15-inch panel at 1920 x 1200. The newer 15.4-inch parts do not fit it, and the difference is not a rounding error.

Driver reaching out to tap an electric car center touchscreen

Tesla's owner's manual advises against fitting a touchscreen protector, citing unintended inputs, delayed or unresponsive touch and electrostatic discharge, and states that damage caused by installing one is not covered by the vehicle warranty. On a legacy Model Y there is an additional consideration: your car is now several years old and the display has survived that long without a protector. That is evidence about how necessary one is.

If you want one anyway — and the usual reason is glare rather than scratches — the size you need is 15 inches, at 1920 x 1200 and a 16:10 aspect ratio. The 15.4-inch parts sold for the Highland and the Juniper will not fit. Neither will the 16-inch parts. There is a usable amount of glass at stake in the difference.

1. Best overall

Supershieldz 15-inch tempered glass

Supershieldz

At 0.33mm this is the thinnest glass in this group, and thickness is the main variable in how much a protector affects the touch layer — exactly the thing Tesla's warning is about. No alignment frame, and it is a general accessory brand rather than a Tesla specialist.

Best for: Legacy Model Y and pre-Highland Model 3 owners on a budget

Fits: Model Y (2020-2024) · Model 3 (2017-2023)

Overall8.2/ 10 — our editorial score, not a lab test

What works

  • The thinnest glass in this group, which is the main variable in how much the touch layer is affected
  • Covers the 15-inch panel that the newer 15.4-inch parts will not fit
  • Cheap enough to treat as consumable

What does not

  • No alignment frame
  • A general accessory brand rather than a Tesla specialist, so fitment support is thinner

Manufacturer specifications

  • 0.33mm tempered glass
  • Cut for the 15-inch display used by the 2020-2024 Model Y and 2017-2023 Model 3
  • Marketed as anti-scratch and bubble-free

2. Best without covering the screen

TOPABYTE screen edge protector frame

TOPABYTE

Protects the bezel and the display corners while leaving the touch surface bare, which avoids Tesla's stated concerns completely. It does nothing about scratches or glare on the glass.

Best for: Owners who want the bezel protected without covering the glass

Fits: Model Y Juniper (2025-2026) · Model 3 Highland (2024-2026) · Model Y (2020-2024) · Model 3 (2017-2023)

Overall8.6/ 10 — our editorial score, not a lab test

What works

  • Avoids Tesla's stated concerns entirely, because nothing is applied over the touch layer
  • Protects the corner the display is most often knocked against

What does not

  • Does nothing about scratches or glare on the glass itself
  • Sold as part of a bundle, so you may be buying two pieces you did not want

Manufacturer specifications

  • Frame that protects the display surround, not the touch surface
  • Part of a three-piece console accessory set
  • Listed as compatible with the 2026 Model Y Juniper

Tesloid TPE floor mat set

Tesloid

Deliberately not a screen protector. On a four-to-six-year-old Model Y, a set of generation-scoped floor liners will improve how the car feels far more than covering a display you have not scratched in four years. Shallower walls than the premium liners.

Best for: Owners who want a mid-price TPE set with per-generation part numbers

Fits: Model Y (2020-2024) · Model Y Juniper (2025-2026) · Model 3 (2017-2023) · Model 3 Highland (2024-2026)

Overall8.2/ 10 — our editorial score, not a lab test

What works

  • Catalog is organized by generation, which cuts the main risk in this category
  • Sits between the budget sets and the premium liners on price

What does not

  • Perimeter wall is shallower than WeatherTech's, so heavy slush can escape the mat
  • Smaller brand means fewer independent fit reports to cross-check

Manufacturer specifications

  • TPE mats listed separately per Model 3 and Model Y generation
  • No-drill, drop-in fitment
  • Sold as front, rear and cargo pieces

Specifications as published by the manufacturer. We have not independently tested this product.

Why thinner is better here

Tesla's concern is about interference with a capacitive touch layer. The thicker the glass between your fingertip and the sensor, the more that interference matters, which is why a 0.33mm protector is a more sensible choice than a thicker one on this car — it is the version of the product that least contradicts the manufacturer's reasoning.

It is also worth noting what a 15-inch sheet of tempered glass weighs and how it behaves if it is only held by an adhesive layer. Larger protectors are harder to apply flat and more likely to trap an air pocket at a corner. If you are doing this, read installing without bubbles first.

The selection is thinning out

Because the market has moved to 15.4 and 16-inch parts, the choice for a 15-inch display is narrowing, and several listings now show 15-inch as an afterthought variant on a page headlined for a newer car. Read the variant picker carefully and confirm the size is stated in inches, not implied by a year range.

Questions people actually ask

What size is the screen in a 2020-2024 Model Y?

15 inches, at 1920 x 1200 and a 16:10 aspect ratio. The refreshed cars use 15.4 or 16 inches.

Will a Model 3 protector fit my Model Y?

For the 15-inch generations, several protectors are listed for both the 2020-2024 Model Y and the 2017-2023 Model 3 because the panel is the same size. Confirm the listing names both.

Is it too late to fit one?

No, but ask what you are protecting against. If four years of use has not scratched the display, a protector is mostly addressing glare — in which case buy matte, and consider a bezel frame instead.

Does a protector affect the touchscreen?

Tesla says it can, citing unintended inputs, delayed response and electrostatic discharge. We have not fitted these products and make no claim either way beyond reporting the manufacturer's position.
