Accessory advice for Teslas is almost always written for a new car. The priorities on a 2020-2024 Model Y are different: the interior has some wear, you are less precious about it, you may be thinking about resale, and the parts market is quietly moving on without you. Those four facts change what is worth buying.
Buy things that make the interior feel newer
On a car with a few years on it, the single most effective purchase is floor liners — not because of their all-weather performance, but because the driver's footwell carpet is usually the worst-looking part of the cabin and a liner hides it completely. That is a cosmetic reason to buy, and we would rather say so plainly than dress it up.
Clean the carpet before you cover it. A liner traps whatever is underneath, and the one thing worse than tired carpet is tired carpet that has been sealed in. How to clean Tesla floor mats covers the order of operations.

1. Best first purchase
3D MAXpider KAGU all-weather floor liners
A liner over tired carpet does more for how an older cabin feels than almost anything else, and this is the set the category's fit reputation was built on. Expensive, and the hard top surface is less forgiving underfoot than carpet.
Best for: The 2020-2024 Model Y owner who wants the best-fitting liner and will pay for it
Fits: Model Y (2020-2024)
What works
- The fit reputation in this category is largely built on these liners — edges follow the footwell rather than sitting on top of it
- The raised lip holds meltwater and grit instead of letting it run under the mat
- Piece-by-piece buying means you can skip the cargo liner if you already have one
What does not
- One of the most expensive ways to cover a footwell, and buying the pieces separately adds up fast
- The hard top surface is noticeably less forgiving underfoot than carpet
Manufacturer specifications
- Three-layer construction: a carbon-fiber-pattern top surface, an XPE core and an anti-skid base
- Thermoplastic rubber, laser-measured to the specific footwell
- Sold as separate first-row, second-row and cargo pieces

2. Best value
JOWUA windshield sunshade
On a car whose glass coatings have had years to degrade, a windshield shade is the cheapest way to restore a cabin that has started feeling hotter than it used to. Parked use only.
Best for: Anyone who parks outside — the highest-value shade you can buy
Fits: Model Y Juniper (2025-2026) · Model Y L (2026+, six-seat) · Model Y (2020-2024) · Model 3 Highland (2024-2026) · Model 3 (2017-2023)
What works
- Solves the actual parked-heat problem — the windshield is the biggest single heat aperture in the car
- Far cheaper than a roof shade and takes fifteen seconds to deploy
- Cut to shape, so there is no gap at the corners where a universal shade leaves one
What does not
- Only works while parked, unlike a roof shade which works while driving
- Has to be stowed somewhere when you drive off
Manufacturer specifications
- Black mesh fabric with a silver anti-light coating
- Manufacturer claims up to 99% UV blocking
- Cut to the specific windshield shape; listed for Juniper and Model Y L
Specifications as published by the manufacturer. We have not independently tested this product.

3. Buy before it goes
BASENOR console organizer for Model Y 2020-2024
A dedicated legacy collection rather than a Juniper part with a year dropdown, which is increasingly rare. Fewer pieces available than for the Juniper, and the selection is shrinking.
Best for: Legacy Model Y owners, whose console is a different shape entirely
Fits: Model Y (2020-2024)
What works
- Correct for the pre-refresh console, which the Juniper parts do not fit
- Keeps the legacy car from being an afterthought as the market moves on
What does not
- Fewer pieces available than the Juniper range, and the selection is shrinking
- The 2021 interior update changed the console lid, so check which year the listing names
Manufacturer specifications
- A dedicated legacy Model Y collection, separate from the Juniper parts
- Tray and bin pieces shaped to the pre-2025 console
- Drop-in fitment
Specifications as published by the manufacturer. We have not independently tested this product.

4. Cheapest worthwhile fix
BASENOR cup-holder insert
Fits across generations and stops narrow cups rattling, which is as true on a 2021 car as a 2026 one. It reduces the maximum cup diameter.
Best for: Stopping cups from rattling and tipping
Fits: Model Y (2020-2024) · Model Y Juniper (2025-2026) · Model 3 (2017-2023) · Model 3 Highland (2024-2026)
What works
- Tesla's cup wells are wide, and a narrow cup rattles in them constantly — this is the direct fix
- Cheapest single accessory on this site that you will notice every day
What does not
- Reduces the maximum cup diameter the well can take
- Needs lifting out to clean properly after a spill
Manufacturer specifications
- Insert mat shaped to the console cup-holder wells
- Soft compound chosen to damp movement
- Supplied as part of the four-piece set and separately
Specifications as published by the manufacturer. We have not independently tested this product.

Buy legacy-specific parts sooner rather than later
This is practical, not a sales tactic. Brands tool for volume and volume has moved to the Juniper. Legacy parts will remain available for years, but the choice is narrowing: console trays shaped to this console, roof shades cut for this roof, trunk organizers for this cargo floor. If there is a specific piece you want, the selection is better today than it will be next year.
What to skip on an older car
- A screen protector. Four to six years of use without a scratch is itself evidence about the risk, and Tesla's manual advises against fitting one. If glare is the issue, buy matte; otherwise skip it. See do you need a screen protector.
- A full console reorganization. On a car you may sell within a couple of years, the cup insert and the under-screen tray fix the daily irritations for a fraction of the cost.
- Carbon-fiber-pattern sill trim. A printed pattern can fade unevenly under UV, and on an older car an aftermarket-looking sill does nothing for resale.
If you are thinking about selling
- Keep the original carpeted mats. Buyers notice a car with its factory mats; nobody pays more for aftermarket liners.
- Avoid new adhesive trim. Anything adhesive is a question mark for the next owner and a job for you if you change your mind.
- Protect the trunk sill, which is the painted edge a buyer or an inspector looks at first. A clear film strip is cheap and invisible.
- Fit liners over the carpet rather than replacing anything. Reversible improvements only.
The fitment rule
Your car is not a Juniper, and the market increasingly assumes it is. Buy from listings that name 2020-2024, and treat a bare "Model Y" listing as a reason not to buy. The 2020-2024 fitment page collects every category for this car.
Questions people actually ask
Are accessories worth it on an older Model Y?
The ones that make a worn interior feel better, yes — liners, a windshield shade, a cup insert. The ones that are purely cosmetic additions, less so.
Will accessories help resale value?
No. Nobody pays more for aftermarket liners. What helps is the car being clean, undamaged and having its original parts available.
Are legacy parts disappearing?
Not disappearing, but the choice is narrowing as brands prioritize the Juniper. If you want something specific, buy it sooner.
Should I fit a screen protector after four years?
Probably not. If the display is not already scratched, that tells you something, and Tesla's manual advises against covering it.
