The Highland refresh changed the door aperture along with most of the interior, so pre-Highland sill parts will not sit correctly. That is the fitment rule and it is simple enough. What is more interesting is whether sill protection is the right purchase on this car at all.
A Model 3 sits lower than a Model Y, which means people step over its sill rather than up onto it, and the sill takes less boot traffic as a result. Meanwhile the trunk lip on a sedan is loaded over far more awkwardly than a hatchback's, because the opening is higher and smaller. So on a Highland, the priority order flips: trunk lip first, seat backs second, door sills third.

1. Best overall
Model 3 Highland door sill protector set
Highland-specific TPE, so it follows the refreshed sill curve rather than bridging it, and listed separately from the pre-Highland part. No trunk-sill piece included, and fewer finish options than the Model Y range.
Best for: Highland owners, whose sill profile changed from the earlier Model 3
Fits: Model 3 Highland (2024-2026)
What works
- Highland-specific — the refreshed door aperture is not the same shape
- Flexible material follows the sill curve rather than bridging it
What does not
- No trunk-sill piece included
- Fewer finish options than the Model Y range
Manufacturer specifications
- Shaped to the Highland sill profile, listed separately from the pre-Highland part
- TPE construction
- Front and rear pieces
Specifications as published by the manufacturer. We have not independently tested this product.

2. Best discreet alternative
Lasfit matte TPE door sill protector
Matte TPE in the same family, and better wet grip underfoot than smooth plastic. Confirm the Highland variant on the listing — Lasfit's catalog spans both cars. No bumper or trunk pieces.
Best for: Owners who want sill protection nobody notices
Fits: Model Y (2020-2024) · Model Y Juniper (2025-2026)
What works
- Matte black disappears against the factory trim — the opposite of the carbon-fiber look
- TPE flexes over the sill curve instead of lifting at the ends like rigid trim does
- Grippier underfoot in the wet than a smooth plastic sill cover
What does not
- No bumper or trunk-sill pieces in the set
- Matte TPE holds dust more visibly than a gloss finish
Manufacturer specifications
- Matte TPE rather than glossy plastic or metal
- Front and rear sill pieces
- Shaped to the Model Y sill profile
Specifications as published by the manufacturer. We have not independently tested this product.

3. Higher priority on a Model 3
BASENOR 3-piece rear seat-back cover
Deliberately here as the better buy. On a sedan with a small rear bench, seat-back scuffing from children is a bigger and more permanent problem than sill scuffing. Full coverage changes how the cabin looks from the back.
Best for: Families — the largest protected surface area available
Fits: Model Y (2020-2024) · Model Y Juniper (2025-2026) · Model 3 (2017-2023) · Model 3 Highland (2024-2026)
What works
- Covers the whole seat back rather than just the kick zone, which is what you want with toddlers
- Three pieces means the center section is covered too, not just the two outer seats
What does not
- Full coverage changes how the cabin looks from the back seat
- More material to remove and clean than a small kick mat
Manufacturer specifications
- Three pieces covering the full rear face of the front seats
- Listed across Model Y, Model 3 and the Juniper
- Wipe-clean surface
Specifications as published by the manufacturer. We have not independently tested this product.

The sedan trunk lip
Everything that goes into a Model 3 trunk is lifted over a painted lip and set down, and the lip is at the height where you naturally rest the weight of a bag. It is the most-damaged painted surface on the car. Dedicated Highland trunk-sill guards are less common than Model Y ones, which is frustrating — if you cannot find one, a strip of clear protection film is a legitimate alternative and costs very little.
How to confirm you have a Highland
Look at the steering column: no indicator stalk means Highland. The 8-inch rear screen and the ambient light strip around the cabin are the other giveaways. All three are faster and more reliable than checking a build date, and the same check decides your floor mats and console parts.
Material matters more on a curved sill
The Highland's sill has a pronounced curve at the ends, and that is where rigid ABS trim lifts away over time. Flexible TPE follows the curve and stays down. If you have a choice between a rigid part that covers more and a flexible part that covers less, take the flexible one here — a lifted edge looks worse than an unprotected sill.
Questions people actually ask
Will pre-Highland sill protectors fit a 2024 Model 3?
No. The Highland door aperture changed. Buy a part listed for 2024 onward.
What should I protect first on a Highland?
The trunk lip, then the seat backs if children ride in the back, then the door sills. A Model 3's sills take less traffic than a Model Y's because you step over rather than up.
Is clear film an alternative to a trunk sill guard?
Yes, and a reasonable one where no molded Highland part exists. It is invisible, cheap and protects against exactly the scraping that damages that edge.
TPE or ABS on a Highland sill?
TPE. The sill has a pronounced curve at the ends and rigid trim lifts there over time.
