Screen Protectors

Tesla Model Y and Model 3 Screen Sizes by Generation

Three center display sizes across these cars, and the model year does not reliably tell you which you have. This is the reference table.

If you take one thing from this hub, take this page. The single most expensive mistake in buying a Tesla screen protector is assuming your model year determines your display size. On the Model Y it does not: the trim does, and two sizes are sold side by side as 2025 and 2026 cars.

Sizes, resolutions and aspect ratios are Tesla-published specifications, cross-checked against a Model Y display-fitment reference and the Model Y generations record. Where Tesla has not published a resolution for a panel we say so rather than estimating one.

How to confirm your own car in two minutes

  1. Open the Tesla app or your Tesla account and look at the order details for the vehicle. The trim is named there, and trim determines display size on the Juniper.
  2. If you bought used and have the window sticker, the trim is on it.
  3. Look in the back of the center console. A rear screen means you have the 16-inch front display on a Model Y, or you have a Highland.
  4. Check the vehicle's own specifications or software menu, which reports hardware details.
  5. If all of that fails, measure the display diagonally in inches. A 15-inch and a 16-inch panel differ by enough to be unambiguous.

Why the 16-inch panel is not just bigger

The 16-inch display changed aspect ratio as well as size — from 16:10 to 16:9 — and raised resolution from 1920 x 1200 to 2560 x 1440. That means a 16-inch protector is a different shape, not merely a scaled-up 15.4-inch one. It also means a matte finish on the 16-inch panel discards more detail than it does on the lower-resolution screens, which is a genuine reason to prefer clear glass on those trims.

The right protector for each size

Once you know your display size from the table above, this is the product that matches it. Confirm the size against your own car first — this is the category where a model year is not enough.

Supershieldz

The 2020-2024 Model Y and the 2017-2023 Model 3. Widely available and cheap enough that a failed install is not a disaster.

Best for: Legacy Model Y and pre-Highland Model 3 owners on a budget

Fits: Model Y (2020-2024) · Model 3 (2017-2023)

Value9.5
Overall8.2/ 10 — our editorial score, not a lab test

What works

  • The thinnest glass in this group, which is the main variable in how much the touch layer is affected
  • Covers the 15-inch panel that the newer 15.4-inch parts will not fit
  • Cheap enough to treat as consumable

What does not

  • No alignment frame
  • A general accessory brand rather than a Tesla specialist, so fitment support is thinner

Manufacturer specifications

  • 0.33mm tempered glass
  • Cut for the 15-inch display used by the 2020-2024 Model Y and 2017-2023 Model 3
  • Marketed as anti-scratch and bubble-free

Best for: Owners who want matte coverage for front and rear screens together

Value8.5
Overall8.4/ 10 — our editorial score, not a lab test

What works

  • One of the few listings that names the display it does not fit — exactly the disclosure this category needs
  • Front and rear pieces in one purchase

What does not

  • Matte costs some sharpness, as it always does
  • The explicit 2026 exclusion means you must know your trim, not just your model year

Manufacturer specifications

  • Matte coating described by the manufacturer as glare-reducing while retaining HD clarity
  • Covers the front 15.4-inch display and the rear screen
  • Listing explicitly states it does NOT fit the 2026 Model Y Juniper 16-inch display

Model Y Premium, Performance and the Model Y L. This is the size most listings silently get wrong, because the badge on the trunk does not tell you which screen is inside.

Best for: 2026 Model Y Premium and Performance, where 15.4-inch parts do not fit

Value8.0
Overall8.2/ 10 — our editorial score, not a lab test

What works

  • One of the few parts that explicitly addresses the 16-inch panel instead of pretending every Juniper is 15.4-inch
  • Bundling the rear cover matches the trims that actually have a rear screen

What does not

  • A newer, less-established brand than the Tesla specialists
  • If you have an RWD or AWD Juniper this is the wrong part entirely

Manufacturer specifications

  • Cut for the 16-inch 2560 x 1440 display fitted to Model Y Premium and Performance
  • Includes an 8-inch rear screen cover
  • 9H tempered glass; sold in single and two-pack listings

Questions people actually ask

What size is the Tesla Model Y screen?

It depends on the car. 15 inches for 2020-2024, 15.4 inches for Juniper RWD and AWD, and 16 inches at 2560 x 1440 for Juniper Premium and Performance and the Model Y L.

Did the Juniper refresh change the screen size?

Yes, from 15 to 15.4 inches on the standard trims. The 16-inch panel arrived later on the Premium and Performance variants and the Model Y L, which is why "Juniper" alone is not a display specification.

Is the Model 3 Highland screen the same as the 15.4-inch Model Y?

Both are 15.4 inches, and several protectors are listed for both cars. Confirm the listing names your car rather than assuming interchangeability.

How do I measure my screen?

Diagonally, corner to corner across the active display area, not including the bezel. 15, 15.4 and 16 inches are far enough apart to distinguish with a tape measure.
