Tesla's front console cup wells are wide, shallow and smooth-sided. That is a reasonable design for the thing most people carry — a large takeaway coffee cup — and a poor one for almost everything else. A slim can, a narrow bottle, a small cup: all of them move, rattle against the sides on expansion joints, and occasionally tip when you corner.
This is the most universally recognized small annoyance in these cars. The fix costs a few dollars. The only reason to read further is to make sure the insert you buy still takes the container you actually use.
What fits, and what rattles
| Container | Fits? | Rattles? |
|---|---|---|
| Large takeaway coffee cup | Yes, snugly | No |
| Medium takeaway cup | Yes | Slightly |
| Standard soda can | Yes, loosely | Yes |
| Slim can | Yes, very loosely | Badly |
| Tall narrow water bottle | Yes | Yes, and can tip |
| Wide insulated tumbler | Tight, and tighter with an insert fitted | No |
| Very large insulated tumbler | Often not, and an insert makes it worse | Not applicable |
Why we are not publishing exact dimensions
Because we have not measured them, and a wrong internal dimension is precisely the error that makes someone buy a part that does not work. Tesla does not publish cup-holder dimensions, and figures circulating in forums vary. What we can tell you reliably is the behavior — which containers are loose and which are tight — because that is consistently reported across owners.
If you need an exact number, measure your own well with a ruler across the opening. It takes ten seconds and it is the only figure you can trust for your specific car.

1. Best overall
BASENOR cup-holder insert
A soft molded insert that narrows the well with a compliant wall, which holds a cup rather than just slowing it down. It reduces the maximum diameter the well accepts, and needs lifting out to clean after a spill.
Best for: Stopping cups from rattling and tipping
Fits: Model Y (2020-2024) · Model Y Juniper (2025-2026) · Model 3 (2017-2023) · Model 3 Highland (2024-2026)
What works
- Tesla's cup wells are wide, and a narrow cup rattles in them constantly — this is the direct fix
- Cheapest single accessory on this site that you will notice every day
What does not
- Reduces the maximum cup diameter the well can take
- Needs lifting out to clean properly after a spill
Manufacturer specifications
- Insert mat shaped to the console cup-holder wells
- Soft compound chosen to damp movement
- Supplied as part of the four-piece set and separately
Specifications as published by the manufacturer. We have not independently tested this product.

2. Best value
TOPABYTE 3-piece console accessory set
The cup element comes with a charger mat and a bezel frame for about the price of one accessory. It is a mat rather than a molded insert, so it steadies cups less than the dedicated part.
Best for: Owners who want the cup holders, bezel and charging pad sorted at once
Fits: Model Y Juniper (2025-2026) · Model 3 Highland (2024-2026) · Model Y (2020-2024) · Model 3 (2017-2023)
What works
- Addresses three different annoyances for roughly the price of one accessory
- The charger mat stops a phone sliding off the pad under braking, which is a real and common irritation
What does not
- Three pieces chosen by the manufacturer, not by you — you may only want one
- Cup-holder insert is a mat rather than a structural insert, so it steadies cups less than a molded one
Manufacturer specifications
- Cup-holder insert, screen edge protector frame and wireless-charger mat
- Listed as compatible with the 2026 Model Y Juniper
- Three separate pieces, no adhesive
Specifications as published by the manufacturer. We have not independently tested this product.

3. Best if the whole console annoys you
BASENOR 4-piece center console organizer set
The cup insert is included in the four-piece TPU set, which is cheaper than buying the pieces separately. Four pieces, four edges to seat; soft TPU marks more easily.
Best for: Juniper and Highland owners reorganizing the whole console in one go
Fits: Model Y Juniper (2025-2026) · Model 3 Highland (2024-2026)
What works
- TPU absorbs vibration where rigid ABS transmits it, which is the single biggest cause of console rattle
- The hidden armrest compartment is the piece that actually changes how you use the car day to day
- One set covers every surface in the console instead of leaving gaps between parts
What does not
- Four pieces means four opportunities for a slightly loose edge
- Soft TPU picks up marks more readily than a hard plastic tray
Manufacturer specifications
- Four pieces: console tray, armrest storage box, armrest hidden storage and a cup-holder insert mat
- TPU rather than ABS
- Listed for the 2025-2026 Model Y Juniper and 2024-2026 Model 3 Highland
Specifications as published by the manufacturer. We have not independently tested this product.

The insert trade-off
An insert works by making the well smaller. That is the whole mechanism, and it means the largest container you could previously fit may no longer go in. If you carry a wide insulated tumbler every day, check the insert's internal dimension on the listing before ordering — this is the one real reason not to fit one.
The other practical note: an insert has to come out to clean properly after a spill, which is a small chore rather than a problem. Avoid anything adhesive.
Mat or molded insert?
A mat sits at the bottom of the well and adds friction. A molded insert lines the well and narrows it. The mat reduces sliding; only the insert actually stops a narrow can rattling against the sides, because only the insert changes the diameter. If rattle is your complaint, buy the molded one. The full comparison is in the console hub.
Rear cup holders
The rear center armrest holders on both cars are a different shape, and most inserts do not cover them. They are also less of a problem in practice, because rear passengers are not usually putting a slim can in them at highway speed. If rear rattle bothers you, a thin mat cut to the well is the practical answer.
Questions people actually ask
What size cups fit a Tesla cup holder?
A large takeaway cup fits snugly. Slim cans and narrow bottles fit loosely and rattle. A very wide insulated tumbler may not fit at all, and an insert makes that worse.
Does a Tesla Model Y have cup holders?
Yes — two in the front console and holders in the rear center armrest on most configurations. The complaint is looseness, not absence.
Will an insert stop the rattling?
A molded insert largely will, because it narrows the well. A flat mat only reduces sliding.
What are the exact cup holder dimensions?
We have not measured them and Tesla does not publish them, so we are not going to quote a figure. Measure across your own well with a ruler — ten seconds, and it is the only number that applies to your car.
