Model Y Five-Seat vs Seven-Seat: What Fitment Changes

Seat count is a fitment variable most buyers never think about, and several product listings quietly depend on it.

Most people buying Tesla accessories think about model year and generation. Seat count is a third variable, it is real, and several listings depend on it without making much of it. The seven-seat Model Y adds a folding third row, and that changes the rear sill area, the cargo floor and the depth of the well beneath it.

What depends on seat count

Does seat count matter?
AccessoryDepends on seat count?Why
Rear door sill protectorsYesThe rear sill area differs; several sets are listed five-seat only
Trunk sill and bumper guardsSometimesThe load aperture geometry can differ
Cargo liner / trunk matYesThe folded third row changes the floor shape
Sub-floor storage binsYesThe well is shallower with a third row stowed
Trunk organizers and side binsYesSide groove geometry differs
Front and rear footwell matsNoFirst and second row footwells are unchanged
Console organizersNoThe console is identical
Screen protectorsNoDisplay size depends on trim, not seats
Roof sunshadeNoThe roof aperture is the same
Seat-back protectorsNoThe front seats are the same

The pattern

Everything forward of the second row is unaffected. Everything behind it may be. That is a simple rule and it covers almost every case: if the accessory touches the cargo area or the rear sill, check the seat count; if it touches the cabin, do not worry about it.

What to do if your configuration is not listed

  1. Check whether the product is shape-located or adhesive. A soft cargo organizer does not care about seat count; a molded sub-floor bin does.
  2. For sills, clear paint protection film cut from a roll works on any aperture and is cheap.
  3. For the cargo floor, a soft collapsible organizer is configuration-agnostic where a molded liner is not.
  4. Where a five-seat molded part is the only option, do not force it — a liner that does not sit flat is worse than none.

Note on the Model Y L

The six-seat Model Y L is not a seven-seat Model Y with one fewer seat. It is a longer car with a different wheelbase and body, and five-seat and seven-seat parts alike do not transfer to it. See the Model Y L fitment page, and seven-seat accessories for the multi-row shopping questions that apply to both.

What to buy for each configuration

The third row changes which pieces you need, and most sets are sold for the five-seat car by default.

1. Best five-seat set

BestEvMod 5-piece door sill protector set

BestEvMod

Five pieces covering the front and rear sills of a standard Model Y. Check the piece count against your car before ordering — a seven-seat car has sills a five-piece set does not account for.

Best for: Covering sills, rear bumper and trunk sill in one purchase

Fits: Model Y Juniper (2025-2026)

What works

  • The widest piece count here — the trunk sill is a genuinely vulnerable painted edge
  • One order rather than sourcing bumper pieces separately

What does not

  • Rigid ABS can lift at the ends on a curved sill where TPE would follow it
  • Five adhesive pieces means five chances to get the alignment wrong

Manufacturer specifications

  • Five pieces: front sills, rear sills, rear bumper and trunk sill cover
  • Listed for the 2026 Model Y
  • ABS construction

3W door sill protector (Juniper five-seat)

3W

Cut for the refreshed sills rather than adapted from the legacy pattern, which matters at the door aperture edges where the two cars differ most.

Best for: Low-maintenance sill coverage on a five-seat Juniper

What works

  • Explicitly scoped to the five-seat layout, which the seven-seat sill differs from
  • Plain finish ages better than a patterned one

What does not

  • Does not cover the bumper or trunk sill
  • Five-seat only, so seven-seat owners must look elsewhere

Manufacturer specifications

  • Listed for Juniper 2025-2026 five-seat models
  • Focused on durable, wipe-clean coverage rather than decoration
  • Front and rear sill pieces

Questions people actually ask

Will five-seat sill protectors fit a seven-seat Model Y?

Often not. Several sets are listed for five-seat layouts only because the rear sill area differs. Check the listing.

Does seat count affect floor mats?

First and second row footwells are unchanged, so front and rear mats are fine. The cargo liner and sub-floor bins are affected.

Is the sub-floor well smaller in a seven-seat car?

Yes — the stowed third row occupies part of it, so the well is shallower. Buy bins listed for your configuration.

Is the Model Y L just a seven-seat Model Y?

No. It is a longer car with a different wheelbase and six seats. Neither five-seat nor seven-seat parts transfer to it.
