Gloved hand vacuuming grit out of a carpeted car floor

All-weather is a marketing phrase, so it is worth defining what actually matters. Three things: how high the perimeter wall is, how well the edge follows the footwell contour, and whether the surface channels water toward the middle or lets it run to the edges. A tall wall with a poor edge fit is worse than a modest wall with a perfect one, because water that gets under the mat never comes out.

Material matters less than people think. TPE, TPO and the various tri-extruded compounds are all fine; none of them absorbs water, all of them hose off, and all of them stay flexible in the cold if they are any good at all. The failure you actually encounter is a brittle cheap mat that cracks at the fold after two winters. TPE vs rubber vs carpet has the detail.

Gloved hand vacuuming grit out of a carpeted car floor

1. Best overall

WeatherTech FloorLiner

WeatherTech

The tallest perimeter wall available and a per-year fitment database. If the question is containment, this is the answer and there is not much argument to have.

Best for: Snow-belt owners who want the deepest tray walls available

Fits: Model Y (2020-2024) · Model Y Juniper (2025-2026) · Model 3 (2017-2023) · Model 3 Highland (2024-2026)

Fit9.0
Coverage9.5
Material8.5
Cleanability9.0
Value7.0
Overall8.6/ 10 — our editorial score, not a lab test

What works

  • The tall perimeter wall is the most convincing containment in this category for slush and road salt
  • A long-standing fitment database means the year you own is usually explicitly listed, not implied

What does not

  • The rigid material is the least pleasant underfoot of the premium options and can creak on a cold morning
  • Finish is utilitarian — nobody buys these because they look good

Manufacturer specifications

  • High-density tri-extruded material with raised channel walls
  • Digitally measured per vehicle and per model year
  • US-manufactured; the company's own fitment lookup is by year, make and model

Specifications as published by the manufacturer. We have not independently tested this product.

2. Best fit

3D MAXpider KAGU all-weather floor liners

3D MAXpider

The three-layer construction with an XPE core and anti-skid base is better engineered than the price-led sets, and the edge follows the footwell properly. Walls are shorter than WeatherTech's.

Best for: The 2020-2024 Model Y owner who wants the best-fitting liner and will pay for it

Fits: Model Y (2020-2024)

Fit9.5
Coverage8.5
Material9.0
Cleanability9.0
Value7.0
Overall8.6/ 10 — our editorial score, not a lab test

What works

  • The fit reputation in this category is largely built on these liners — edges follow the footwell rather than sitting on top of it
  • The raised lip holds meltwater and grit instead of letting it run under the mat
  • Piece-by-piece buying means you can skip the cargo liner if you already have one

What does not

  • One of the most expensive ways to cover a footwell, and buying the pieces separately adds up fast
  • The hard top surface is noticeably less forgiving underfoot than carpet

Manufacturer specifications

  • Three-layer construction: a carbon-fiber-pattern top surface, an XPE core and an anti-skid base
  • Thermoplastic rubber, laser-measured to the specific footwell
  • Sold as separate first-row, second-row and cargo pieces

Specifications as published by the manufacturer. We have not independently tested this product.

3. Best coverage

3W full-coverage TPE liner kit

3W

Dense TPE across every surface in the car, Juniper and Highland listings. The widest coverage here, though the seat-back pieces are an afterthought compared to the floor parts.

Best for: Juniper owners who want the densest TPE and the widest coverage

Fits: Model Y Juniper (2025-2026) · Model 3 Highland (2024-2026)

Fit9.0
Coverage9.5
Material8.5
Cleanability8.5
Value8.5
Overall8.8/ 10 — our editorial score, not a lab test

What works

  • The broadest single-kit coverage we found for the Juniper, seat backs included
  • Came out ahead of both MAXpider and WeatherTech on fit in one independent Juniper comparison

What does not

  • A newer name than WeatherTech or MAXpider, so there is less long-run evidence of how the material ages
  • Seat-back pieces are a nice extra but are not as well finished as dedicated seat-back protectors

Manufacturer specifications

  • TPE throughout, described by the manufacturer as a higher-density compound than entry-level sets
  • Kit covers footwells, frunk, cargo floor, sub-trunk and seat backs
  • Separate part numbers per Model Y generation

Specifications as published by the manufacturer. We have not independently tested this product.

4. Best value

TAPTES all-weather floor mat and trunk mat set (6 pieces)

TAPTES

Six all-weather pieces including the frunk and sub-trunk for less than two premium liners. Edge fit is the compromise.

Best for: Juniper owners who want every surface covered in one purchase

Fits: Model Y Juniper (2025-2026)

Fit8.0
Coverage9.5
Material8.0
Cleanability8.5
Value9.0
Overall8.6/ 10 — our editorial score, not a lab test

What works

  • The cheapest route to full coverage — footwells, cargo floor, under-floor well and frunk in a single box
  • Juniper-specific tooling, which matters because the refreshed cargo floor and frunk tub changed shape

What does not

  • Fit at the edges is a step behind 3D MAXpider and WeatherTech in independent comparisons
  • A six-piece set is a lot of material to store if you only wanted the front mats

Manufacturer specifications

  • Six pieces: first row, second row, cargo floor, sub-trunk and frunk
  • Molds made specifically for the 2025-2026 Juniper body, not adapted from the legacy car
  • TPE construction

Specifications as published by the manufacturer. We have not independently tested this product.

5. Best mid-price set

Tesloid TPE floor mat set

Tesloid

Covers both cars across generations with proper per-generation part numbers. Shallow walls limit it in real slush.

Best for: Owners who want a mid-price TPE set with per-generation part numbers

Fits: Model Y (2020-2024) · Model Y Juniper (2025-2026) · Model 3 (2017-2023) · Model 3 Highland (2024-2026)

Fit8.0
Coverage8.0
Material8.0
Cleanability8.5
Value8.5
Overall8.2/ 10 — our editorial score, not a lab test

What works

  • Catalog is organized by generation, which cuts the main risk in this category
  • Sits between the budget sets and the premium liners on price

What does not

  • Perimeter wall is shallower than WeatherTech's, so heavy slush can escape the mat
  • Smaller brand means fewer independent fit reports to cross-check

Manufacturer specifications

  • TPE mats listed separately per Model 3 and Model Y generation
  • No-drill, drop-in fitment
  • Sold as front, rear and cargo pieces

Specifications as published by the manufacturer. We have not independently tested this product.

Fitment still decides what you can buy

This page compares all-weather liners across both cars, but you can only buy the ones listed for yours. Go to your generation and buy from there: Model Y Juniper, Model Y 2020-2024, Model 3 Highland, or Model 3 2017-2023.

What all-weather liners cannot do

  • They do not protect the cargo floor. That needs a cargo liner.
  • They do not stop spray hitting the painted rocker behind the front wheels. That needs mud flaps.
  • They do not keep the seat backs clean, which is a separate and usually more urgent problem if you carry children.
  • They do not make a dirty carpet clean. Lift the mats out and vacuum underneath before you fit them.

Questions people actually ask

Are Tesla floor mats worth it?

All-weather liners are worth it if you have a reason — winter, a dog, children, a muddy driveway. If you garage a dry car, the factory carpeted mats are quieter and look better, and buying liners is a preference rather than an upgrade.

How do I clean all-weather floor mats?

Lift them out, rinse with a hose, agitate stubborn grit with a brush and mild soap, then dry flat before refitting. Never use heat to speed drying — it can distort the molded shape. Full method in [how to clean Tesla floor mats](/guides/how-to-clean-tesla-floor-mats).

Do all-weather liners smell?

Some TPE sets have a noticeable smell for the first week, especially in a hot car. It fades. Airing them outdoors for a day before fitting shortens it considerably.

Which brand has the tallest walls?

WeatherTech, by a clear margin. That is the single reason to pick it over better-looking alternatives.
